Mobile phones
It is very expensive to use a UK mobile phone abroad. Calls can cost between 70p and 1.50.To send a text will cost at least 50p.It can sometimes even costs you between 70p and 1.00 to receive a call on your UK mobile. For this reason it is worth looking a public phone box. You will need 20 or 50 cent coins for local calls and 1€ coins for international calls, some phones will accept credit cards.
Most public phones now take pre-paid phone cards, which can be bought at tobacconists. If you do not have enough coins to make your call, there are also manned booths from which you can make your call and will be charged as you leave.

Sim Card or Mobile Phone Hire

Cariba Sol do have Pay as you GO sim Cards and Mobile phones available to hire. A sim card will cost you 10€ to hire(if you have an open phone). Or we can hire you a Mobile phone with the sim card for 20€. This is a one off charge for 1-4 weeks. You will have to leave a deposit in case of loss or damage. They can be re charged at our office or you can buy top ups in the local shops.

Phoning home
Step 1. Dial 00 (international code), then wait for the continuous high-pitched tone.
Step 2. Dial 44 for the UK or the country code.
Step 3. Dial the number, omitting the first 0 from the area code.

Remember the reduced rate international calls can be made from 10pm to 8am and all day Sunday and public holidays.
If you are dialing Gibraltar you do not need to dial 00 and only need to use the code 9567.
For other country codes/international enquiries, the International information service on 025.

Take a taxi
We strongly recommend that you use the official taxi services; they all have a taxi sign and official registration and license details. If you are uncertain about the amount you should be charged, always ask to see the price list and pre-agree the amount.
